Scout Campfire Leader: skills for volunteers
As night falls at camp, thoughts often turn to gathering around a glowing camp fire to end the day, but do you still remember how to run a traditional scout camp fire—the way it was done when you were a scout or cub scout yourself?
The art of leading a successful camp fire is becoming a lost skill. To help keep this important part of scouting heritage alive, members of Hampshire Scout Heritage are offering a one‑day training event in Cranbury Park, Chandlers Ford on Saturday 11th July 2026.
During the day you will:
- Learn how to build an effective camp fire
- Explore the customs and traditions of scout camp fires
- Discover how to open and close a camp fire with confidence
- Find out about camp fire blankets and their history
- Pick up popular action songs
- Understand which songs and skits are unsuitable
- Gather ideas for fun, appropriate skits to use with your group
This is a unique opportunity to refresh your skills, deepen your knowledge, and bring the magic of a traditional scout camp fire back to your Pack, Troop or Unit.
