Can you help the Hampshire Scouts Heritage team solve a mystery?
The team have recently been sent a couple of photographs. They show the 38th Portsmouth Sea Scouts, dated 1956, being presented a trophy which we believe was called the Cockerell of the Harbour, or a shortened version of that name.

The photos came from a former member of the movement and, it is believed, the competition was open to Sea Scout Groups from around the county but that has not been confirmed. The photographs show the presentation and the winning team from 38th Portsmouth Sea Scout Group who were based in St. Marks Church, Lower Derby Road, North End.

Can you help us answer some burning questions?
What happened to the trophy? Does it still rest in a group's trophy cabinet to this day?
Did you, your group, or anyone else you know also take part? We cannot find details of anyone else who took part in these competitions and which groups won.
How long was the competition running for?
Any why call it the Cock(rell) of the Harbour? What's the story behind it?
Any further news or information is much appreciated. Let us know through County Office.
